118-010 Rare antique Lao 'Pa Biang' ceremonial shawl

This is a rare, antique, Lao 'Pa Biang' ceremonial shawl. This is a masterpiece of the Southeast Asian textile weaving arts. This original, genuine, vintage, textile is exceptionally rare. They are highly collectable artifacts. Finding them in excellent condition, like this one, is extremely difficult to acquire. In my forty years of collecting Asian textiles, I have seen very few pieces that reflect this high quality and masterful craftsmanship. These pieces which break from the traditional use of the open space section, 'Lai kachae' are like hen's teeth. The embrodiered pattern comprises the entire length of the shawl. I have only seen a few of these in all my decades of searching for unique pieces. These 'Pa Biang's, from my collection, are not 'revivalist' modern copies. These are the vintage 'real deal' textiles. This is a museum quality piece, beautifully rendered and masterfully executed. This is without question a truly rare Asian textile and testement to the weaving arts of Lao culture.
