118-015 Goddess Green Tara thangka in brocade

This Newari style thangka is a reproduction of the 13th century rendition of the Goddess Green Tara by the Newari artist Arniko. It is considered to be the classic image of the Goddess. Green Tara is the 'mother of liberation'. As a meditative deity, her image is utilized to develop the inner qualities of compassion, loving kindness and emptiness. She is considered in Hindu and Buddhist religions to be a protective female Buddha. This thangka is exquisitely rendered by one of Nepals finest artists, Basu Lama. It is a masterpiece.
