118-025 Nepalese Pure Silver Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) Statue

This statue is the classic iconographic representation of the 'Second Buddha', as he is referred to. Padmasambhava (Tibet: Guru Rinpoche) is the famous figure who brought Buddhism to Tibet and incorporated the shamanic practices of the indigenous Bon religion, of Tibet, into Buddhism. He is the 'Lotus Born, the Precious One. He was an eighth century Indian scholar and Tantric master. His Tibetan consort was the transcendental adept Yeshe Tsogyal. Together they established the traditions of Mahayana and Varjrayana Buddhism in Tibet.
This is a magnificent rendering of this incredible being and is an outstanding representation of the skill of this gifted silversmith from Patan, Nepal.
