114-010 Ceremonial Comb from Lampung

This charming red-painted hair comb is embellished with strips of gilt silver and gold leaves. The elaborate shape is evocative of the horns of a buffalo. The curved form is ubiquitous throughout island Southeast Asia, and is widely associated with boat symbolism that recalls the historic sea journeys undertaken by early ancestors.
