118-011 Tibetan traditional tiger carpet

In 1980, I relocated from California to Kathmandu, Nepal. I began a partnership in a small carpet weaving business there. We specialized in producing high quality traditional Tibetan tiger carpets and Tantric Buddhist motif carpet designs. At that time, we contributed toward the renovation of combining raw Tibetan wool with raw New Zealand wool. The New Zealand wool was softer and had a much higher content of lanolin, which helped alleviate problems with accidental staining. The carpets listed here were some of our original prototypes, and they are all over forty years old. They are in excellent condition for their age. These carpets were woven with 100 knots and are thick and lush. They are all the same size, 3 feet by 6 feet. We used as many natural dyes as possible. No child labor was involved in their production. The shipping cost would have to be sorted out before a quote could be made, as Covid has increased the cost of shipping, at present.
In Kathmandu, the recent earthquake, the enforcement of child labor laws, the skyrocketing cost of raw wool and the shutdown of tourism to Nepal has had a devastating effect upon the local carpet weaving industry, much of it has relocated to China. Having carpets made, of this quality and design, in Kathmandu today would be very difficult and costly.
